Ràfia is the latest wine in the Santa Maria La Palma winery in Alghero. It is a Sardinian Vermentino DOC, obtained from Vermentino grapes fermented in 500-liter oak barrels. The grapes of this Vermentino are harvested by hand in crates and then cooled to a temperature close to zero degrees to allow the full extraction of the aromas in the skins during pressing. Then, after six hours in the press, the must is placed in a steel container following sedimentation, where fermentation starts at a controlled temperature of 13°C. After a few days, the must continues fermentation in 500-liter oak barrels for 10 days followed by bâtonnage, i.e. manual stirring of the lees into the wine, and then, aging in the bottle for about four months. Rafià Vermentino di Sardegna DOC is a straw-yellow color with golden flecks. The nose is intense with floral notes that immediately give way to hints of fruit, orange peel and lemon, with a light spicy finish. On the palate, it is sapid with a delicate sweetness on entry, volume in the center of the mouth, and long and persistent on the finish. We recommend serving it at a temperature of 12-15 °C.

Cantina Santa Maria La Palma, Alghero The Cantina Santa Maria La Palma is a large winery in Alghero, in north-west Sardinia, the region known as the “wine island”. The company was founded in 1959 and now manages 700 hectares of vineyards, with a production facility of more than 50,000 square meters which produces about 5 million bottles each year, distributed throughout Italy and around the world. The land is cultivated by 300 winegrowers working together.
